Dodger Stadium Tarp: Where They Keep It When It’s Not on the Field

The Tarp at Dodger Stadium

If you’ve ever watched a Dodgers game, you may have noticed something: the tarp is almost never on the field.

It’s not sitting somewhere along the infeld wall waiting for a rainy day.

The Dodgers keep it at the old 76 gas station near Dodger Stadium, and it is very rarely needed.

So when I heard last night during dodger talk with David Vasse, that they had put the tarp on the field, I immediately knew we were in for some serious weather.

And sure enough, Sunday brought rain to Los Angeles. Most of the day till 7p the Dodgers almost never play a Sunday game at night very rare occasion. The game might’ve been canceled if it was this afternoon.

For most baseball fans, the tarp is just something the grounds crew rolls out when it rains. But if you’ve watched Dodger Stadium for decades, seeing that tarp come out is almost an event by itself.
